Halls for Hire in Lambeth - Where are they?

The Borough of Lambeth has a strange shape, encompassing delights such as Waterloo, Stockwell, Herne Hill all the way down south to Streatham and West Norwood. It's almost a miniature UK, long and thin and arguably it would be difficult to defend if it was under invasion. A noticeable problem however is knowing where all the community halls in Lambeth are, let alone what assets they have, how you can hire them and perhaps most important of all, what activities are taking place within them? The burning question is, if you are looking for a hall to hire in Lambeth where do you go?

Well until OpenPlay existed, you would have had to go to the Lambeth Council website at which point after going around in circles you may have been lucky enought to come across this map:

This tells you that there are 50 or so community halls in Lambeth, some of which have excellent facilities including halls for over 200 people, mirrored dance studios, sports halls, bar facilities, disabled access. Actually wait a second, no this map doesn't, in fact it really tells you very little. So other than suggesting you log on immediately to OpenPlay, here is a list of 10 halls to hire in Lambeth, with links to book them where possible.

Top 10 Halls to Hire in Lambeth

 1. Lansdowne Centre, Stockwell

Run by Unltd, a community focused enterprise, the Landsdowne Centre is a youth centre with an extensive activity programme taking place throughout the week including zumba, martial arts and dance classes. It has a small sports hall/dance studio with mirrors which can house approximately 30 people. Outside there is also a multi-use, synthetic court for 5 a side football and basketball. 2. Bolney Meadow Community Centre, Stockwell

Light, airy and modern and located close to the Wandsworth Road in between Stockwell and Vauxhall. The Bolney Meadow has a fairly new community space which is popular for dance classes in Stockwell and other physical activities such as zumba. Rates can vary, but usually there is a minimum booking period of three hours and block bookings are preferred. You can book the Bolney Meadow Hall here.

3. Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre, Vauxhall

The Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre or VGCC has a couple of halls for hire, one of which is perfect for physical activities such as yoga, martial arts and zumba. It's located just off Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and is open to new bookings and activities. You can book the Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre Hall here.

4. Wheatsheaf Centre, Vauxhall

The Wheatsheaf Hall has been a community venue since 1988 when members of the local community leased the building from the council. It was awarded grade II listed status in 1975 and is run by volunteers with an extensive activity programme taking place throughout the week. There are two spaces that can be hired for community and business meetings, meditation groups, faith groups, council surgeries, rehearsal space, weddings, christenings, birthday parties and bingo. 5. Reay Primary School, Stockwell

Reay Primary School off Caldwell Street is a popular amongst the local community for its dance studio and 5 a side floodlit astroturf pitch. The dance studio houses various activities throughout the week including dance classes, yoga, zumba and other fitness based activities. It can be hired for approximately £35/hour. 6. Platanos College, Stockwell

Platanos College was formerly known as Stockwell Park high school and is close to one of the most iconic buildings in Stockwell, Lidl supermarket. Platanos College as an enterprising school has a fully equipped sports hall as well as other community rooms for hire including a light and spacious, mirrored dance studio. 7. The Stockwell Centre, Stockwell

The centre?s many rooms, including the main hall and community hall are also available for private hire and can be booked directly through Centre staff. Main Hall The Main Hall has a view of the community garden and includes a serving hatch that leads from the kitchen. Capacity: 60 ? 100 people depending on type of use. 8. Wellfield Centre, Streatham

The Wellfield Centre is a youth club in Streatham with two main halls for hire including a mirrored dance studio and separate multi-use hall. There are a variety of activities taking place throughout the week at the centre which are available for youths as well as other age groups. Further details about the two halls for hire in Streatham are as follows: Dance studio/hall Well lit space with mirrors on one wall. Suitable for professional dance and theatre rehearsals. 9. John Corfield Centre, Streatham Vale

The John Corfield Centre is operated by the Streatham Youth and Community Trust and lies off Conyers Road in Streatham Vale in the London Borough of Lambeth. It has a range of facilities for hire at the John Corfield Centre including large halls suitable for groups and physical activities. There is also an extensive weekly programme of activities which target youths and children in particular such as taekwondo, juniors club and special needs. 10. Montgomery Hall, Oval

Montgomery Hall consists of one large hall which seats approximately 180 people and one smaller hall with attached professional kitchen facilities and a lawn to the rear available for hire. The hire fee is £115 an hour. It is opposite the Kennington Oval cricket ground, two minutes walk from the main church, one minute from Oval tube and five minutes walk from Vauxhall mainline/tube station.
