Wembley is best known as being the home of football, having hosted many a dour nil-nil England draw, with fans usually passing in and out of consciousness in the stands. What it is not so well known for is tennis. That’s usually the jobs of leafy Wimbledon and the prestigious Queen’s Club, which both require you to have double-barrel surnames to join and/or have someone in your family called Rupert or Octavia.
However there are some fantastic places to play tennis in Wembley and the surrounding areas. Furthermore there are no less than eight parks and 44 tennis courts with online booking. Below are the picks of the bunch when looking for tennis courts in North West London.
Gladstone Park is the jewel in the crown for tennis in Brent parks, with no less than nine hard courts for hire and four mini courts. The park is one of the largest in Brent with undulating terrain, netball courts and a bowling green. The tennis courts are located towards the main café and down the hill from the pond and bowling green. There are local tennis leagues available as well as coaching sessions for adults and juniors. Furthermore there is a delightful café not too far away from the tennis courts with a quaint garden and a perfect cup of fresh coffee.

Chelmsford Square probably has the best public tennis courts in North West London, with four pristine courts available. They were relatively recently refurbished and offer a tranquil location amongst the Chelmsford Square residential estate. There probably aren’t better public courts in across the whole Borough of Brent given their quality. Coaching sessions are available at the courts for both adults and juniors.

King Edward VII Park is the closest park to Wembley and covers a large, grassy expanse with a children’s playground, multi-use games area and three hard tennis courts. It is a picturesque park with Wembley stadium in the background and the three tennis courts are perfectly playable, although their surface has seen better days.

Preston Park is fairly well hidden and most people probably wouldn't even know it existed as it is amongst a load of residential buildings. After entering down some inconspicuous paths, it opens up into a lovely grassy open space with a bowling green, football pitches and six tennis courts for hire. The courts have a hard service and could do with upgrading, but are also incredibly peaceful.

Eton Grove is fairly well hidden and has a cricket ground and club, children’s playground and two hard tennis courts for hire. The pavilion was relatively recently refurbished and can also cater for dance classes and fitness activities.

Woodcock Park has four concrete tennis courts and two mini-courts available to book online. They are usually locked with a code which is given to everytime you book. They lie next to a multi-use games area which can be used for football and basketball.

Alperton Sports Ground flanks the Wembley Lucozade PowerLeague and has a couple of 11 a side football pitches available. It has also has five tennis courts lying next to a disused pavilion. The courts are in reasonable condition and there is a tennis coach operating at the courts.

Vale Farm is a sports ground and leisure centre with a 3G football pitch for 11 a side football, fitness suite, dance studio and cricket pitches. There are two tennis courts available which also have a coaching programme.
