They say that life is better up north, and the number of fantastic sports halls available would certainly not dispel the rumour.  The humble sports hall, so simple and yet so incredibly versatile.  As far as a large rectangular room can be, the halls we’ve picked are visually appealing and of course they suit a range of activities with well maintained equipment, making them the creme de la creme of those available in North London.

Sobell Leisure Centre, Islington

Sobell Leisure is a top notch sports facility all round.  It is well located near to Finsbury Park tube and their facilities are extremely well priced. Their multi-function sports hall accommodates 14 badminton courts, a football pitch, a netball court, basketball court and a volleyball court.  The hall is home to many organised activities such as No Strings Badminton and Pay and Play football sessions.  The halls are available 07:15-22:30 on weekdays and 09:00 – 21:30 on weekends. To book the hall for football (five-a-side), Netball or Basketball  will cost £87.60 for non members per hour.  A badminton court during peak time is £14.45 during peak time and £9.80 off-peak for non members.  Members receive a 10% discount.  Bookings can be made via their Better.org website.

Archer Academy, East Finchley

The school is located a 10 minute walk from East Finchley station and contains one of the most attractive sports halls you’ll find, a solid 9 for appearance.  Its modern blue flooring has various sports markings and there is great lighting and high ceilings.  The hall is a great hire for netball, badminton, basketball, dodgeball and general fitness classes.  Equipment is available for public use such as badminton nets, fitness mats and more.  As it’s a school, it is only open on Weekday evenings between 6 and 10pm, but all day weekends from 9 until 9.  There are changing rooms, showers and free parking available.  Also on site is a 3G football pitch, multi use games area, dance hall and main hall.

Haverstock School, Chalk Farm

This is a great hall with lots of warmth and personality in its orange walls and natural lighting.  It has a fully sprung floor, suitable for performance and recreational sports, providing optimal ball bounce and preventing injury.  It can cater to a huge range of sports such as five-a-side football, basketball, netball, cricket, indoor hockey, martial arts, gymnastics and badminton

The facility also boasts a fitness suite, dance studio, floodlit astro turf and multi use games area.  Prices start from £55 per hour and booking enquiries can be made online via their website.
