3G pitches have established themselves as the home of the 5 a side football leagues and there is a good reason for this. For years our footballing abilities have been hindered by uneven terrain and the temperamental British weather causing our treasured pitches to turn into mud covered ligament ruiners. So it’s no wonder we’ve come to love the Nou Camp esc carpets capable of turning us from average teams into tika-taka playing visionaries. 3G pitches have even found their way into professional football, with England recently playing on a 3G pitch against Lithuania and even managing to secure a win. With this being said they’re not always the easiest places to discover, so here is a list of the 3G pitches available to book in the East London area.
You’ll find SportsDock located in Beckton, which is just a small distance away from Barking. This facility was built in 2012 for a staggering price of £21 million pounds or alternatively 1/3 of the price Real Madrid paid for James Rodriguez in 2014 to put it into a unique perspective. SportsDock is currently home to a state of the art 3G pitch, appealingly described as synthetic grass filled with a rubber crumb. The enclosed pitch is outdoors and includes floodlights to ensure all post work 5 a side leagues can be carried out year round. However, if you want to be able to play, you must abide by the SportsDock footwear rules, which are:
1. Shoes must be clean
2. No spikes
3. No blades
4. No studs/moulds over 6 mm
If you’re looking to book this pitch then give them a call on 020 8223 6888.
Home of the Lucozade power league, which boasts of its state of the art 5G football pitches, surrounded by high tech flood lighting systems. This combination creates the perfect environment to produce the highest quality of 5 a side football that we all believe we possess. With that said, a staggering 509 goals were scored on this pitch last month, so perhaps it really will get the best form out of each team. These facilities are based in Tower Hamlets, however, the nearest station would be Mile End which is just a short walk away. When you arrive you’ll find:
- 1 x 11 a side sand based astro (football and hockey)
- 3 x 7 a side 3G pitches
- 4 x 5 a side 3G pitches
If you fancy a back breaking change of pace, Mile End Park is also the residence of the East London hockey club and the Wapping hockey club. However, if you are committed to the beautiful game then give them a call on 020 8709 4420 and get yourself down there!
Romford is a large town in East London and it’s the administrative centre for the London Borough of Havering. This means little to me, however I do know that they are the home of a highly competitive 5 a side league, at Play Footballs Romford Venue. For the football enthusiasts you’ll be happy to learn the 3G pitches have rebound boards and roof nets, keeping the ball in play at all times; for those like myself that means we lose the opportunity to take a breather. Expect the highest levels of refereeing standards, as all refs are FA qualified and governed by the FA rules and regulations. League winners receive a trophy and medals for each individual player so make sure to employ a few ringers. Visit their website http://www.playfootball.net/romford/ to join the league!
